The POS Friends Advent Calendar: A month of content
« on: October 18, 2012, 09:29:12 AM »

This idea was birthed in IRC the other day, evolved from something I apparently said last December as a mostly-joke.

The POS Advent Calendar.

Something new, a suprise, every day, from the start of December. A little gift.

A gift from the community, to the community.

And it's something we do together.

If you want to be a part of this, you sign up in this thread. Signups can pretty much go on until the end of November, but getting an idea of how many days each person needs to take is good to have early.

So once we have all the people who are going to participate, the days in December are split up among us. And on your days, you post something. Some type of content you have created. Some work.

It could be some art. A story. A comic. A mini fest of something seasonally appropriate. A song. A fanfic about the time when Soap saved Christmas.

In essence, it's a smaller version of our old Content Supernova, and with only one piece of new content per day.

Right now, when you sign up, if you have a specific day in December you want, then you can claim that day. You're going to get more days, because there's not 25 of us, but it's a thing I can use to work from. Right now you can claim only one day, and only from the 1st to 25th - we don't stop there, the rest of December will be the Bonus Round, but more on that later.

so this actually isn't starting until December? I understand the thematic significance, but would maybe doing it in November be better just to ensure some good activity on the site through the month? it could go either way, I am just suggesting ... it seems like it will be a popular idea, and getting enough signups to start in November shouldn't be impossible

It's starting in December. I don't understand what you're arguing.

I'd feel rotten not joining. So you bet I'm in.

We should have some system to ensure content gets posted in a timely manner. Things may come up that would prevent someone from posting on their day. The system I'm going to propose is that you just send your whatever to a person (me) a day or two in advance so I can post it for you if you're not able to. I'm able to be around in some capacity pretty much every day. This'll also be a good use of the "reattribute posts to other users" functionality I added!

Bumping this. I'm going to see if I can make something this weekend. We should probably sort out what days we're taking...

Yeah, I'm gonna draw out a schedule for who gets what day Soon™. Last chance to get any preferences (or anti-preferences) reported.
