Well, with the above tips, I was able to do it. I was actually able to do it in 4 turns -- thanks to my new secret Burst tech (Black Mist + Blind/Paralyze + Shadow Bite (sometimes triggering a second Shadow Bite + Squall Volley (which never misses a single shot with the above statuses). In my original fight he shrugged off Blind after one turn, but with Black Mist he stayed Blind for turns 2, 3, and the 4th where he died. I was doing like 5000+ damage a turn. :X
I forgot to equip the Fire Rings prior to starting the fight, and almost kicked myself in the head for it, but Mind Break + a Fire Mist + Fire Rune gave me enough fire protection that his initial hit-all only hit everybody for 40. I was able to regen right through all of his attacks without any real healing.
Paused at the #plot# that follows afterwards, going back through the game getting some items I missed and renewing the stock of consumables at the store. I also swapped out my Fortress/Medic for an Arcanist/Medic because I've grown so reliant on status effects and because my Fortress was proving underwhelming. Short of spamming Party Guard, which left him unable to use his shitty heals (poor TEC stat), he just wasn't very good at the job of protecting the party, even with max Taunt. I used one of my two Bushi scrolls to autolevel the Arcanist to level 35, and now she's slowly catching up to the rest of the party. With so much passive health regen I have now, lair crawling is a lot easier and I have to revisit town/use consumables and heal spells a lot less frequently. I get a free heal at the end of every turn a circle is up, Patch Up when I finish the fight, and heals just for every step I take thanks to the Arcanist skill that follows their safe-ground-stepping one. All-in-all happy with the swap of classes!
