If your Skype is set to automatically update, you either have or will soon have an annoying ad in your chat window that looks like this:

I got no gripes with ads in a free product but putting one in this spot is kind of extremely a dickish thing to do.
To get rid of it:
1. In Notepad, open this file: C:/Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
2. Add these to the file and save:
127.0.0.1 a.rad.msn.com
127.0.0.1 nym1.ib.adnxs.com
127.0.0.1 c.betrad.com
127.0.0.1 usefb.adsrvr.org
127.0.0.1 secure.adnxs.com
127.0.0.1 attracto.com
127.0.0.1 ads1.msads.net
127.0.0.1 m.adnxs.com
3. Open command prompt
4. ipconfig /flushdns
5. Clear your IE temporary internet files
6. restart Skype
I don't know if all of those things in the hosts file are necessary (m.adnxs.com definitely is) but adding them doesn't seem to hurt anything.
EDIT: I also found another list at some point, and I've heard of people getting ads lately too, so maybe add these as well:
