I've been wondering if maybe we should switch from Skype to something less dumb. These days there's a thing called Discord that basically does all the same stuff but isn't as dumb. Also it supports animated gifs.

It works in a browser too if you roll that way, and you don't need an account (though you should probably make one).

This isn't an official switch yet. But let's see whether people like Discord or Skype better.

Agreed. I think it helped I already didn't like skype all that much. I'm still working on copy/pasting quotes from chat in Discord, though.

Besides not being able to to quote it's way way way better than Skype.

Are there any of you who don't prefer Discord over Skype?

I'll keep the Skype chat open since I still use Skype anyway but at this point I feel like the pros outweigh the cons as far as switching our chat goes.

I think Kenny's the only active chatter who hasn't given it a try yet.

My entire issue is basically that I really don't want to install and run another IM program just for a single chat. I never liked switching to a Skype groupchat instead of the IRC channel since IRC is so much better, but I was already using Skype for chatting with a lot of other people anyway, so that was still acceptable.

This is the crux of it all, basically - is there anyone at all of you who has abandoned Skype entirely now? Did anyone stay with using Skype only for POS chat?

I'm not even disputing that Discord might be a better program, Skype certainly has an amount of issues, but unless there actually were a lot of you who held on to Skype solely for one single group chat and have now given up on it completely because that one group chat moved, I have issues seeing any compelling reason for this move.

Discord is much less resource intensive. All the people I would use skype with can reach me on Steam, and then I can open Skype when needed. I'd rather not leave Skype open 24/7, though.

You can also run it in a browser if you want. You don't even have to make an account. The Windows app is basically the web app but with a few more settings.

I can definitely say I was only using skype for POSchat. I used to know other people, but before joining recently I hadn't used Skype in years.

Im uninstalling as we speak. Skype was alright. this is better.  Just install a new program already You got a five gig HD or something?

not specifically for pos chat, but I only use skype to communicate with rick and the lads, and I hate it (skype is a bad program everyone). Discord is much better with the exception of being exposed to a meme every time I open it.

Everyone I talked to on Skype jumped ship to Discord. I have no reason to use it anymore.

Any reason you're willing to open a browser tab to post on the forum but not a browser tab to speak with us?

Almost all of us were running an extra chat program just to visit #melee for most of its life, by the way.
