Title: The POS Friends Advent Calendar: A month of content
Post by: KennyMan666 on October 18, 2012, 09:29:12 AM
This idea was birthed in IRC the other day, evolved from something I apparently said last December as a mostly-joke.

The POS Advent Calendar.

Something new, a suprise, every day, from the start of December. A little gift.

A gift from the community, to the community.

And it's something we do together.

If you want to be a part of this, you sign up in this thread. Signups can pretty much go on until the end of November, but getting an idea of how many days each person needs to take is good to have early.

So once we have all the people who are going to participate, the days in December are split up among us. And on your days, you post something. Some type of content you have created. Some work.

It could be some art. A story. A comic. A mini fest of something seasonally appropriate. A song. A fanfic about the time when Soap saved Christmas.

In essence, it's a smaller version of our old Content Supernova, and with only one piece of new content per day.

Right now, when you sign up, if you have a specific day in December you want, then you can claim that day. You're going to get more days, because there's not 25 of us, but it's a thing I can use to work from. Right now you can claim only one day, and only from the 1st to 25th - we don't stop there, the rest of December will be the Bonus Round, but more on that later.

so this actually isn't starting until December? I understand the thematic significance, but would maybe doing it in November be better just to ensure some good activity on the site through the month? it could go either way, I am just suggesting ... it seems like it will be a popular idea, and getting enough signups to start in November shouldn't be impossible

I'd feel rotten not joining. So you bet I'm in.

We should have some system to ensure content gets posted in a timely manner. Things may come up that would prevent someone from posting on their day. The system I'm going to propose is that you just send your whatever to a person (me) a day or two in advance so I can post it for you if you're not able to. I'm able to be around in some capacity pretty much every day. This'll also be a good use of the "reattribute posts to other users" functionality I added!

Gonna put this forward: what are opinions on "exclusive" content? I'm talking mostly along the lines of stuff made for particular games that not everyone necessarily plays.

I'll go ahead and say that I'm for it. Limiting ourselves to the traditional POS "content" formats would just be throwing some good opportunities away.

To keep things inclusive, though, it'd be good to also include a small side gift like a comic or something to make sure nobody walks out empty-handed.

Also, Wally isn't around much lately. It'd be smart if some of us would make a few extra things just in case.

And Jack: I don't see a problem with fitting you in if a few people want to relinquish some of their scheduled days. It won't be me though. I'm using all of mine. :P

I've only got two solid ideas so far, I certainly wouldn't mind giving up one of my days.

What kind of "stuff" do you mean?  I probably wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'm not sure exactly what you're saying.

I don't mind it, but I for one can't mod too many things atm. I'm still learning UDK/Hammer, and I can do some textures and sound editing but that's about it.

I do have an idea along this line though that might work.

I have a request. I was thinking of doing a dual-entry with my good friend PorLoaf, we are hopefully gonna do something, not saying what it is, and we need 2 people. So what I'm asking is, can I "donate" one of my days to him? It'd be great if we could do it, it'd be a good laugh  :(9):

No, I mean, it'd span one day, but involve 2 people, so I'd be willing to give away one of my days to do it, preferably the 20th, might be going away that day.

If it's just one day's content, then I don't see what the issue is. It's fully covered by your day.

Nah. It being your day just means that you're responsible for posting the content on that day. Of course you're allowed to make it together with someone else.

You should probably get that looked at? I don't think that's a thing that normally happens to people.

You could try the video again, or go with something less time-consuming to make. Maybe some comics or something, I don't know. Or quickiefest some shitty games like I did.

I think it's something like a weak bloodflow or some nonsense like that, so if I stay still for around 2-3 hours, I just get dizzy and shit, any longer, blackout.
Also, that might work, the shittygamesfest, thanks :)

Okay, the 25th is almost here, I'm working on my thing for today.

But December isn't over, and now we're all in gear for contentmaking. Well, somewhat.

So fromthe 26th until 2012 is over, it's the POS Advent Calendar Bonus Round!

The bonus round is the place for all content that might have been made for the calendar but for various reasons never were. Drafts of ideas. Ideas that were never finished, replaced by something else. New ideas you got after you ran out of your days. Even just listing ideas you got but never made. The final content dump of the year.

Here, there's no days given out to specific people. Just post away when you feel you have something worth posting. Multiple people can post in a day. It's no catastrophe is nothing gets posted on one day.

It's just to fill us with the content cheer that will last us quite a bit into the new year!
