New pokes! New graphics (full 3D battles, the way God Intended)! New other things, probly! Wowie! It's a great time to be a Pokegamer, that's for sure! (http://i.imgur.com/qXqk1.gif)

yeah. i'm hoping they don't cut back on the dialogue in order to meet that goal, but if any company has the resources to pull it off, its nintendo

Probably just means the japanese version will spend a few months sitting in warehouses while the rest get translated. :(9):

Also, I'd imagine this got worked on concurrently with B/W 2.

They didn't have the technology to do what Soap said. Releasing world wide isn't about the tech at all, it's about just waiting until the English translation is done then release both at the same time. It's not like they're putting both scripts on the same cart.

The game looks sick and I will be getting the Y version I think. The one with the red letter.

It's not like they're putting both scripts on the same cart.

Well yeah, but I think it's possible that means they also reorganized the development process to translate in parallel from day 1. Modern games from Nintendo probably already have translation in mind as they code anyway but from a software development perspective it's pretty interesting.

Goat and bear are p. cool, bird's alright, and I have no idea what that other thing is but it looks pretty dumb.

The real judgment won't be passed until the game comes out and I see what puns are in their names.

The lizard doohicky looks ADORABLY dumb. And it might involve into something cool.

Bird sure is the "boring bird pokemon that's everywhere".

EDIT: http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/June_2013_CoroCoro_leaks

Lizard thing is electric/normal, cool. The grass goat thing you RIDE AROUND in the big ass city of the region to get around; not sure if it's free ride or just like an auto transit thing. There's also three variants of each gender player to choose from.

I'm deciding nothing until I play the game... I haven't even decided which version to get yet. Which one are you getting? I'm going to just go with whichever version's most uncommon among the people I'm likely to play it with (I don't know or care what the version differences/exclusives are).

same on all counts. the only differences i've kept up with are the legendary pokes on the box on the box and each version has a different version of mega mewtwo

I'm getting Y.

So normally I'd go with grass type (since Bulbasaur took me through rough times in R/G/B).

This time? FIRE! Fennekin and Charmander are my main starters for now.

Or I might do a combo: Chespin and Charmander. Either way my Gen 1's gonna be Charmander.

I don't know if I like that different version of Mega Mewtwo on each game. From what I read it was gender based not game based.

What starter combo are you kids going for (Remember you get a gen 6 and gen 1 starter):

I'm going for a Charmander for gen 1, but I don't know what I'm getting for Gen 6. Normally I do Grass starter, but I'm thinking of switching it up a bit this time and going fire.

Remember from this point to use spoiler tags when discussing anything you think someone would prefer not to know, and to label your spoiler tags with some indication of the point in the game they're talking about (e.g. "after 2nd gym", "route 6")

Not really a spoiler: they block "bad words" in names now. You can't name a pokemon "Not Weedle" because it says "weed" in it. I know because I tried this with a different bug-type. So I settled for "Really?".

OMG just reviving a dead topic here.

So...Nintendo is doing this promo thing where if you register one of a certain few games and 3DS family system in March you get either Pokemon X or Y free. I happened to buy the new Yoshi's Island game during, but already registered my 3DS months ago, so I don't quite qualify.

Anyone have/know a person with an unclaimed 3DS/XL/2DS Club Nintendo code I can beg off them? I'd like to enjoy some more modern Pokemon action.

code sent, check yo pms :jawsome:

I don't know when they first announced it but it's kind of dumb that it matters when the 3DS is registered... if you registered one for the hell of it before (i.e. not for another promotion like this) I don't see why they wouldn't count that. Sucks to be anyone who registered theirs on February 28!

First: Thanks for the code!   :swoon:
I used the second one.

Second: For some reason I never bought a larger SD card to go with my 3DS, so I just have a 2GB. 2GB, even if I didn't already have Yoshi's Island on it, would not be enough space for Y version. I will have to buy one at work tomorrow and download the game tomorrow evening after I get home from class. I looked up the friend code thing and it's game specific, so I'll post tomorrow after I get this stuff installed.

Third: I thought the same thing about the 3DS registration. I know they're probably just trying to get some new unit sales out of the promo, but I will say a decent amount of my motivation to buy a game at $40 was to get a free one too. I'm kind of a cheap SOB and it's difficult to get me to spend that much on a game.

So, how are the new Pokemon games? I don't think I've played one since Ruby/Sapphire. I did, however, play through Red again last year - had a blast. Can you trade pokemon remotely now or do you still have to be wired or in the same room/network? I've seriously done no reading up on this game. >.>

FC's on 3DS are universal. Nintendo learned their lesson from the DS/Wii era.
Title: Re: Pokemon Mega Thread [gotta catch that (poke poke poke)]
Post by: Soaprman on March 16, 2014, 11:55:24 AM
1. Snow problem.

2. Friend codes are system-specific on 3DS, not game-specific. Though the in-game friends list only updates when both players are online at the same time. Also, when you get the new SD card, you can directly copy the contents of the old one to the new one... as long as you copy it in its entirety, it'll work.

You can trade, battle, and voice chat remotely (chat works during trade and battle too). You don't even have to go into a pokémon center to do it anymore (a change from the last games).

The game's quite good. The regional dex has over 450 pokémon in it and there's lots of variety even within individual routes. The post-game content is pretty lacking but since you can challenge random opponents to battles or whatever that isn't too big a deal.

This may be a big one: early in the game, you'll get the Exp Share item. It starts off turned on. While it's on, all pokémon that didn't participate in the battle get 50% of what the participants get. Yes, this can add up to well over 100%... the Exp Share more than triples the total amount of experience you get while playing the game. If you don't change your team often, you'll get overleveled pretty quickly and the game will become easy. So probably turn it off when you get it, or leave it on and just change your team often (this is what I did). It's great for a playstyle where you update your team regularly but people who like to keep the same team throughout the game complain on the internet a lot about it making the game easy instead of, you know, turning it off.

2. I blame the internet for faulty information. If I can't click on the top result in Google and get the right answer, what has the world come to?

 :fuckyou: internet

I did, however, find a good help topic on transferring SD card data.

I like the idea of that Exp share. I like to be the player who has a variety of pokemon and I like to try all of them out. I know in the earlier versions of the game (for the most part), once you tried one of [type combo] your experience with others of the same combination would be similar/same, with the rare exception. Are they still doing genders and breeding? If I recall, that made for some pretty unique pokemon.

I also assume that each version has it's own special dungeon/pokemon that you have to trade to get or use the streetpass function to take advantage of.

I'll see about that friend code thing today, too.

Genders and breeding are still around, yep, and pokémon movelists are bigger than ever. There are also a lot of pokémon with fun/goofy movelists that encourage strategies other than sweeping everything with super-effective moves (though they might not always be as quick).

The version differences aren't very big this time... just the main legendary and random other version-exclusive mons as far as I know. Contrast with Black and White which had an entire town that changed depending on your version.

I'm sad that the friend safari is so inflexible. It would be cool it if rotated every day or week or something.

I thought that since I beat the main storyline I would take a stab at creating an ultimate fighting team (since I'm not even going to bother trying to catch all 700+ in the National Dex). The fun part seems to be in finding the appropriate Dittos. Wish me luck. :P

On a side note: Is everyone as fascinated by wonder trade as I am? I started breeding Version Y exclusives (cause I'm too nice to just use any old pokemon) and tossing them out there to see what I get back. It's kind of addicting.

Yeah, the friend safari only really gets great if you have a huge 3DS friend list. I think they kind of rushed the game a bit toward the end because the post-game content as a whole is rather lacking compared to the past few generations. (I would expect a bunch more stuff to be present in the inevitable third version).

When are you usually online? I'm curious about what your third safari pokémon is... (your first two are Sunkern and Petilil) If we're online at the same time we each get the last slot filled in (it happens if both players have beaten the game).

I'm slowly putting battle-ready pokémon together. I actually recently completed my national dex, but it wasn't a whole lot of work because between all my past games, I basically had it done already.

Wonder Trade is probably my favorite feature in any Pokémon game ever. I've traded away entire boxes at a time. While some pokémon are certainly more common to receive than others (Scatterbug, Charmander, Gible, Froakie are most common in my experience), some real treats come through sometimes (quality breeding rejects, and I even got a shiny Charizard once). I actually even threw a few excess legendaries imported from my old games on there.

Well this week I am on vacation, so I'm on pretty much all day. I'll be in school tonight and Thursday night (except 8-9pm to get those Mega Stones). I thought about working my way up to getting the Pokedex filled out one day, but that would require buying at least 1 or 2 of the newer versions and I don't know that I'm THAT dedicated.

You and Namine landed me a flying and fighting safari. I don't think I'll be hitting up strangers for friend codes, but it would make ditto hunting easier if I had a normal safari.

I thought it was weird that I got several charmanders in my wonder trades. I'll probably be tossing all kinds of breeding rejects when I get to that stage of my battle team creation.

Maybe while you're on vacation you can take some time to practice your telepathy so next time you go on vacation, it's not the week before I go on vacation! Sheesh!

Having access to a Ditto safari is pretty nice, yeah. If you want, I can throw a few safari Dittos your way.

Yeah, I'm already 2 weeks behind on taking my vacation. It would happen like this.

I'm playing for the next few hours and probably for awhile before Heather gets home; so most of the time between now and 7:30pm.

After spending some time hunting in Pokemon Village I decided to hang out on the Friend Safari trading reddit. It's funny how no one with Dittos really post. :P

I'd totally take you up on that ditto offer - is there anything in particular you might want in exchange?

Anything's fine. I've completed my National Dex so I have everything and the ability to make more of almost everything. :P

Anyone who posts in the Friend Safari subreddit with a Ditto safari probably gets swarmed into oblivion. I guess if you have a Ditto safari, it's a good way to get an anything-else safari!

Yeah, I lucked out and caught a ditto guy yesterday. I got your third, Fletchinder, so I suppose you can find out what mine is if you didn't already know.

Also, today I learned spICY is unacceptable as a name for my Vanillite. I'm sad.

It's Quilladin.

There're a bunch of names that are forbidden because of some obscure racial slur ("spic" in your case) or whatever. All the game's doing is teaching people these new words when they look up why they can't use some apparently-innocent name. Doesn't stop them from wonder trading me a Zigzagoon named SHINY N1GGER though... it's not even shiny!

Yeah, I was just thinking about that kind of stuff. I know they can't cover 1337 speak, but you would think they'd just limit it to actual swears and slurs. Makes me wonder if someone has made a list of acceptable "bad" names that aren't 1337.

I did a quick Google search and learned at least that they ban a word that contains parts that are "bad" in any language. Names like Conner and Violet got banned for non-English reasons. Must have to do with the global trading parts.

I did, but it was the first time I got to Lumiose and I didn't have creative freedom so I made it private. I started working on another and I'll release it soon.  :fucken scared as shit cos he just saw a huge-ass bug:

If you're interested, Wonder Trade landed me a zigzagoon with Pokerus. I don't know how rare it is currently, but I'm going to take advantage of it at least.

I'm plenty russed up already, but thanks for the offer! Glory be to the people who got it and spread it to everyone else when the game first came out! I've only ever obtained it once without getting it from someone else, back in like gen 4 or something.

The fastest way to EV train if you plan on bothering with that is to take pokérus, a "power" equip for the stat you want, and fight hordes of enemies that give that stat (use sweet scent to fight hordes every time). Some people say Super Training is faster but I just don't see how that can keep up with getting 25 or 50 EVs a battle!

Oh yeah, even without Pokerus horde training is only 10 battles, 5 with pokerus. I just use Super Training to top off the stat at 252.
