the villager's ability to catch basically anything thrown at him sounds p. overpowered to me, hopefully I am misunderstanding something there???

but megaman looks very cool, I'm looking forward to seeing him in action

so there are the same number of characters as in brawl, but there are at least two new ones - do we know which characters have been cut?

he can only stock one attack at a time, and clearly the other fighters can catch items as well (can't find the time stamp but i think villager chucked a thing at mario who threw it back? it's in the sakurai vid). the worst is going to be if he can pick up say a bob-omb or something and just have that in his pocket

wh. the 3ds and wii u versions have the same number of characters, as each other. not compared to the earlier games

well all characters have been able to catch things like bob-ombs or mr saturns or whatever that's been thrown for a while now, but this guy can catch (if I'm hearing it right) any projectile, including non-physical attacks like samus's charge beam and mario's fireball, which have until now been reflectable (I think - Fox's down+B reflecto-shield springs to mind) but not catchable.  in addition, he seems to be able to put that away for an indefinite amount of time and continue to fight unencumbered - another unparalleled advantage.  other characters have to hold the item in their hand until it is thrown, so they can't use any A button attacks until they get rid of it one way or another.

Mr. Game & Watch can catch projectiles and use them to power an attack.

idk, i don't think it's too much of a deviation from the reflect moves. meanwhile kirby can do the same thing more or less but isn't dependent on the other players to attack first

"The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS," Sakurai said. The 3DS and Wii U versions of the next Smash Bros will have the same library of characters.

"So we're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree. but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible."

i appreciate that they're not making version specific characters but i'd hate to think that some unique characters would be cut from both games just because they wouldn't work on the 3ds :|

Quote
Super Smash Bros: What happens when Kirby eats Mega Man is 'classified'
Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai may have been forthcoming about the new Super Smash Bros' lack of cross-platform play, but when it came to the really important information, he was still pretty cagey. For example, what could be more important than finding out what happens when Kirby eats Smash newcomer Mega Man?

These are two gaming icons whose main ability is to steal the abilities of others. For all we know, Kirby swallowing Mega Man could create a rift in the fabric of reality, destroying all life as we know it. Alas, Sakurai wouldn't give us much information. "A lot of what you're asking is still classified," he told us through an interpreter at E3.

"As far as the physical appearance of Kirby," he said, "I think what you imagine is probably pretty close to what will actually happen." Sakurai put his hands next to his head, in what we're pretty sure was the international sign for "Mega Man's helmet." We followed up by asking if Kirby would be gifted with a Mega Buster. "He's got little tiny arms, so who knows."

the stages will be different for both versions (they're trying to stick with console game levels for Wiiu and handheld levels for 3ds) but they've already shown battlefield in both so i'd imagine there might be a few more exceptions.  that's all they've brought up so far

now touching down anywhere but the landing zone just instantly explodes you

this turned out to not be right BUT the number of versus matches you have to play to unlock all the characters has been significantly lowered, czech it out

10 matches - Ness
20 matches - Falco
30 matches - Wario
40 matches - Lucina
50 matches - Dark Pit
60 matches - Dr. Mario
70 matches - R.O.B.
80 matches - Ganondorf
90 matches - Mr. Game & Watch
100 matches - Bowser Jr.
110 matches - Duck Hunt Dog
120 matches - Jigglypuff

I played this for the first time at the house of a pal... It was really fun and I seem to be pretty good at it. My favorite character so far is Rosalina. She's everything I liked about the Zelda side of Zelda/Sheik, but better. Wario comes in at a close second. I played the "Cloud DLC" and, I hate to be the one to say it, but he does seem pretty OP. Anyone who chose him last night was pretty much guaranteed a sound victory. It's fun, it's pretty, there is a great character selection, I'm pretty pleased.

I'll never accept the idea of "combat heels", though, and think that such barbaric implements are best left consigned to the incinerator.
